Community Day

Once a year the church closes its own programs for a day and works on other people’s buildings instead. Twelve jobs, put forward by neighbors and by the two schools, chosen in April.

This year’s list

• Repainting the community hall’s main room and corridor
• Clearing and replanting four raised beds at the primary school
• A new fence along the allotment’s east side
• Deep-cleaning the food bank’s storeroom and rebuilding its shelving
• Six gardens for people who can no longer manage them

What you need

Old clothes and a water bottle. Everything else — tools, paint, gloves, lunch — is provided. Every team has a lead who knows what they are doing, so no experience is required for any job on the list.

Children

Welcome on the planting and clearing jobs, not on the fencing or the painting. Say when you sign up and we will place you accordingly.

The rule we work to: nothing gets started that cannot be finished by five o’clock. A half-painted hall is worse than an unpainted one.

Teams gather at the church at noon, walk or drive out together, and come back for food at five.
